Thomas Gille’s interest in science, technology, nature and art, and fascination with 2D, 3D, and ND geometry and graphics, took him to the Rhode Island School of Design. His degree in Industrial Design led to work with Design Craftsmen, acting as Design PM for projects like the First Division Museum. He also managed fabrication for the Cahokia Mounds Museum and others around the US
Tom left Design Craftsmen to become Exhibit Director at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Ft. Lauderdale, overseeing design, fabrication and installation of 25,000 SF of interactive science and natural history exhibits, aquaria, terrariums and pools. After the opening he worked with Deaton Museum Services, Design and Production, and Split Rock Studios. Since 2007, Tom has offered his services as a consultant on design budget estimation.
His company Museums/Tom Gille provides value engineering and cost estimates for all aspects of museum projects, from design, engineering, and detailing, through fabrication and installation. He also coordinates with other specialists - lighting, AV, interactives, GCs, architects, etc. - incorporating their cost estimates into master project budgets.
He has worked with many of the museum industry’s leading designers: Christopher Chadbourne, Patrick Gallagher, Gerard Hilferty, Gerry Eisterhold, C & G Partners, and others. Tom has also worked directly with museums, including the Smithsonian Institute, Museum of Science and Industry and The Field Museum, Boston Science, National Infantry Museum and the National Museum of the US Army.
His recent projects include the National Air and Space Museum, US Marshals Museum, Beit Hatfutsot – Museum of the Jewish People, The Science Behind Pixar, National WWII Museum, American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Mississippi Civil Rights and Mississippi History Museum, and numerous smaller projects.
